“This book is relevant as it affirms the reader’s connection to another life (the cat) and presents a positive way for a family to solve a problem in which both the family and the cat are ok.”

A spirited cat makes an unexpected arrival to a new home in “Cats in Flats” (published by Trafford Publishing), the colorful children’s book written and illustrated by Karen Chambers.

“The book celebrates the joy of living and the cheeky and playful way that cats can be in our lives,” Chambers writes.

Many children long for a pet of their own, but parents are often cautious about the responsibilities that come with caring for a pet. Puppies, kittens, rabbits and other creatures require a lot of time and commitment, but most pet owners would argue that the rewards of animal companionship far outweigh the costs.

Written in singsong rhyme and accompanied by Chambers’ unique, whimsical illustrations, “Cats in Flats” follows the adventures of a family adjusting to a new, unexpected member of their family.

About the Author
Karen Chambers grew up riding horses and spending long summers surfing on the east coast of Australia. After graduating from Melbourne University, she qualified as a teacher and worked in both primary schools and secondary education before the birth of her first son, Alexander. Two years after his birth, she completed her fourth year of study in psychology, graduating shortly after the birth of her second son, Nicholas. While raising her children, Chambers worked in adult education and training and in the mental health field. Now that her sons are grown, she has returned to academic pursuits and is currently completing her master’s degree in psychology. Throughout her life, Chambers has pursued her interest in poetry and drawing. “Cats in Flats” was inspired by and written for her sons in celebration of their ginger cat, Bobby, and the happy – and often hilarious – adventures they all shared together. This is her first book.
