New book intends to lessen incidence of frivolous lawsuits

With the publication of his new book “Some Tips to Prevent Employment Discrimination Lawsuits: A Faith-Based Legal Guide for Managers” (published by WestBow Press), author, professor and attorney David A. Robinson offers readers a faith-based guide to preventing litigation.

Robinson’s book provides excellent, innovative, practical tips on how to prevent race discrimination, gender discrimination, age discrimination, disability discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, and some other types of discrimination in the workplace. Utilizing legal sources, practical tips, and, most interestingly, biblical sources, the book helps employers prevent discrimination in the workplace and reduce the number and dollar amounts of lawsuits brought by employees against employers.

The book answers, or tries to answer, some of the most perplexing and controversial questions in human resource management today: Should employers think about the race and skin color of their employees, or should employers be race-blind and color-blind? Should employers be more lenient with aging and disabled employees than with other employees, or treat everyone the same? Are laws that protect gays from discrimination in the workplace consistent with the Bible? (Robinson’s answer: In general, such laws are consistent with the Bible, but some aspects of sexual orientation discrimination law are, in Robinson’s opinion, not consistent with the Bible; he explains his opinions in detail). How does a CEO’s personal spending habits affect employees’ attitudes towards the company? Should employers treat men and women differently, or the same? How do topics such as dating, sex, domestic violence, marriage, and pregnancy impact employer-employee relations? What can employers do to reduce legal expenses? This book answers, or tries to answer, these important questions.

About the Author
David A. Robinson is a practitioner-in-residence at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn., and a labor lawyer. He practiced law in Springfield, Mass., from 1977 to 2008, and now practices in Connecticut. He holds a B.A. in economics from George Washington University and a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. He lives in the New Haven area with his wife.

Robinson is also the author of “A Legal and Ethical Handbook for Ending Discrimination in the Workplace.”
