Take calculated risks, believe in yourself, and be committed to your vision.

The Television, Internet & Video Association of DC (TIVA) recently honored Linda Maslow, CEO of Maslow Media Group, with The Distinguished Achievement award for her work in the Washington, DC video production community. At the storied National Press Club, Ms. Maslow graciously accepted her award in front of an audience of peers, colleagues and fellow production professionals. Recognized by TIVA's Peer Awards for "building the nation’s first full-service video production, staffing, crewing, and payroll services company," Ms. Maslow had a message for her supporters and audience members: "Bravo to all of you who, for all these years, stuck it out."

As the team at TIVA noted, "from it's nascent vision in 1988" Ms. Maslow evolved her company into "one of Inc. magazine's 500 List of Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America." In the 1970's, she began her career as a independent-minded freelancer, guided by her father, Lewis Maslow, who she considers to be her "visionary and mentor." Ms. Maslow quickly took note that the film and television industry lacked a central hub to connect companies with talent and crews. "Searching for a job in production in DC was becoming a full-time career. Why were there no agencies around that could find me a position in Television, I wondered," Ms. Maslow stated. "I floated this agency concept by friends and colleagues. ‘Don't be crazy,’ they said. Everyone has stacks of resumes on their desk already. No one will ever call an agency to staff their productions."

Tapping into an unmet need among her fellow freelancers, Ms. Maslow’s vision soon became reality with her strong entrepreneurial spirit and drive. Immediately, this new service was recognized by the production community. "We had every freelancer in Washington, DC sign up with us in the first three years," she said.

Next year marks Maslow Media Group’s 25th anniversary, and Ms. Maslow remains humbled by the achievements of her company as it has continued to grow and evolve. It is now one of the largest companies of its kind in the country, yet her heart remains with those who helped get her to this point. "It’s the freelancers in this room, and this town, who made Maslow Media Group what it is today," she said. She ended her thoughts and the evening at TIVA with a message to all the dreamers and entrepreneurs out there, including her staff, family, and friends in the audience: "Take calculated risks, believe in yourself, and be committed to your vision."
