“As 2012 comes to a close, a tax-deductible donation can show deep appreciation of our military personnel and ensure children from military families continue to receive the financial assistance they need to become successful citizens of this great nation,” Vice Adm. Norb R. Ryan, Jr., president of MOAA, said.

I am extremely concerned by the current economic environment,” Ryan continued. “As the number of applications we receive for our educational assistance continues to increase, so does the cost of a college education.

Since 1948, MOAA has provided educational assistance to more than 12,000 children of military families.

The MOAA Scholarship Fund is based on one of the association's founding principles, that education is the cornerstone of a strong democracy. For more than 63 years, it has provided interest-free loans totaling more than $90 million to children of officers who have served, are serving or are retired from the seven Uniformed Services and to children of enlisted personnel who are serving or are retired. The fund is supported by donations and bequests from MOAA members, chapters, corporations, and others.

“I am extremely concerned by the current economic environment,” Ryan continued. “As the number of applications we receive for our educational assistance continues to increase, so does the cost of a college education. MOAA helps to sustain this first-class educational assistance program for thousands of military children in 2012 and beyond.”

Top reasons why you should support MOAA Scholarship Fund:

  •     All donations go to the children of officer and enlisted military personnel, whether or not their status is Active Duty, Guard, serving in Reserves, or retired.
  •     100% of your donation goes to students - 0% pays for overhead.
  •     Your charitable donation is tax-deductible - to the full extent of the law.
  •     Your personal information is never given or sold to other charities.

Donors may contribute at any time, or regularly through annual giving and through their estate planning efforts (bequests, wills, trusts, IRAs). MOAA also offers a very competitive Charitable Gift Annuity program for those who want to receive an annual income from their contribution. Participants may donate appreciated securities to eliminate the need to pay higher capital gains taxes.

Contributions are tax deductible under the provisions of §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. By selecting the most appropriate gift option, donors may maximize tax deductions while helping students achieve their dream of a college education.
