The SAISD Foundation supports educational excellence and innovation across San Antonio ISD through programs that aim to increase student achievement, recognize staff and teacher excellence, increase and strengthen business and community partnerships, and help celebrate success.
"Thanks to all those who came out to support this event!" said Judy Geelhoed, Executive Director of the SAISD Foundation. "Together, $25,000 in scholarships were raised which will be awarded this spring to students from Sam Houston High School. Mike Mitchell was very involved with and good to the students of Sam Houston as well as its feeder middle school and elementary campuses in SAISD. Many thanks to his friends, fellow basketball players, including David Robinson, George Gervin, Sean Elliott, Mike Gale, family, and the community who came out to honor him and support students in SAISD through the Mike Mitchell Scholarship Fund."
Mr. Mitchell, a former NBA All-Star who facilitated youth programs in several middle schools that feed into Sam Houston High School, died of cancer in 2011. The scholarship fund was created in his memory to provide higher education scholarships to help SAISD student realize their dreams.
