You really do not have Christmas, Easter, a funeral, a wedding or family gathering without Potica

It’s an old world delicacy that began in Slovenia, but perfected in Northern Minnesota.

Italian Bakery of Virginia, Minnesota is proud to deliver the holiday delicacy, Potica, the delicious Italian pastry that’s become a holiday staple for residents throughout Minnesota, fresh to people across the United States and across the world.

Since 1965, the bakery has been shipping its unbelievably rich and tasty Italian pastry throughout the world, from Beijing to the Persian Gulf. Owner Bette Prebonich, who took over the bakery with her husband in 1987, said it’s a “nice gift to give” because Potica is typically enjoyed with friends and family.

“You really do not have Christmas, Easter, a funeral, a wedding or family gathering without Potica,” Prebonich said.

What makes the Italian Bakery of Virginia’s Potica so delicious is not only the fresh ingredients they use, but recipe has stayed unchanged for over 100 years when Mary Janezich’s recipe was used for the original owners of the bakery, Geno Marcaccini.

Now, Bette and Joe Prebonich have added a wrinkle their bakery’s original pastry, adding raisins and walnuts for an extra nut roll of their homemade Italian pastry, making the decision on what loaf to buy that much more difficult.

Prebonich said her bakery in Minnesota uses between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds of walnuts per holiday season to make her famous Potica.
“Orders come from all over,” she said.

Also just in time of the holidays is the bakery’s new mobile site, which will give people yearning for Potica, which is similar to a nut roll except more mouthwateringly delicious, a new platform to view and order the delicacy. According to Microsoft, mobile internet users will exceed traditional desktop users in 2014.
