If we can hold on through all the disorder, everything good is recycled,Our goodness is never wasted.

“My most significant memories were crammed into the attic of my mind and I was fast running out of time and space,” writes Jill St. Clare, explaining the impetus behind her new memoir, “Frantic Fan Dancer: Losing My Feathers” (published by Balboa Press). “I had the story. I had the memory to describe with such an outpouring. I was immediately empowered to write. And so I began.”
Set mainly in Australia, “Frantic Fan Dancer” opens with charming, childhood memories and observations of whimsical urban living typified by “backyard cubbyhouses and starched rag sunhats,” St. Clare writes.
An excerpt from “Frantic Fan Dancer”:
“The dull and lifeless atmosphere of Grandma’s front bedroom was slowly enveloping us. It was creeping over me and pressing me down to where it wanted me to be. Maybe I was suffocating, or I would have a scary attack of the wheezes, as my sister and I lay in Grandma’s iron bed. Both of us were rolled separately in a blanket like a sausage in pastry and then inserted down deeply into the depths of the bed and tucked tightly across by a woven twill bedspread. No chance of kicking or having some fun!”
“If we can hold on through all the disorder, everything good is recycled,” St. Clare writes. “Our goodness is never wasted.”
