These teams had to compete for well over two hours in the finals, after having played for seven hours prior to that game. When you think of it in those terms, the level of athleticism being put forth is on par with Olympic athletes.

The Circuit 2012 season culminated in spectacular fashion last weekend as the MEATBALLS of South Florida defeated OSC of Washington D.C. in an epic 11 inning match that many are calling the most competitive kickball game ever played. The Circuit Cup Championship, which took place in New Orleans on November 11, featured 26 competitive kickball teams from across the country, all competing for $19,000 in cash prizes. In the end, the MEATBALLS were able to successfully defend their 2011 Circuit Cup Championship and keep The Circuit Cup in South Florida for another year.

“We’d like to congratulate all of the teams that qualified and competed in The 2012 Circuit Cup Championship,” said Matt Kemph, CEO and Founder, Kickball365. “All of the teams this year helped make this the most competitive field of kickball teams ever assembled. With nearly $20,000 in cash prizes on the line, the excitement was palpable throughout the day as the field was narrowed down. Our hats are off to the Meatballs and OSC for both having a tremendous day and putting on a spectacle in the finals. These truly are the best two kickball teams in the world, and the final match was as exciting as a heavyweight title fight.”

In the finals, the MEATBALLS played OSC to a tie in 10 full innings. They then held OSC scoreless in the top of the 11th and successfully pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the inning to once again win The Circuit Cup and the $10,000 grand prize. The MEATBALLS were able to reach the finals by defeating the overall second seed, The New York Shower Hammers, last year’s Circuit runners-up. Meanwhile, OSC upset the overall first seed, The Situation, to reach the finals.

“An 11 inning game in kickball is practically unheard of,” continued Kemph. “These teams had to compete for well over two hours in the finals, after having played for seven hours prior to that game. When you think of it in those terms, the level of athleticism being put forth is on par with Olympic athletes. For kickball, these two teams set the bar very high for other aspiring teams.”

This was the second Circuit Cup Championship and the first one held in New Orleans. The Circuit Cup Championship Weekend was presented by Complete Discovery Source and sponsored by Yelp, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Coors, and NextGameNation. The weekend included a full slate of social events that included a “Welcome to New Orleans Meet-Up” on Thursday, a pre-tournament Meet & Greet on Friday, the Kickball365 National Award Ceremony on Saturday, and The Circuit Cup Championship Celebration following the tournament on Sunday.

With the 2012 Circuit season complete, teams are now preparing for the 2013 schedule, which begins on February 23rd in Ft. Lauderdale with the South Florida Kickball Open (SFKO.
