In her new memoir “The Journey to Pentecost: A Real Life Story of a Mother's Search for God Through the Eyes of Her Daughter” (published by AuthorHouse), author, and long-time servant of God, Dr. Carolyn Starling-Matthews shares the story of her mother’s role in her spiritual development.
With “The Journey to Pentecost,” Starling-Matthews gives readers a glimpse into her life as it has been defined by her mother’s influence. She shares the story of how her mother’s spiritual journey impacted her own, and how she used it to become acquainted with God. Ultimately, Starling-Matthews shows readers the power of family by illustrating how her mother inspired her to reach her highest life goals and beyond, becoming a spiritual professional mentor for young people.
An excerpt from “The Journey to Pentecost”:
“In another week, the day after Christmas, I somehow knew this was her last day to be with us on this earth. In spite of ice coating the streets of Chicago and dire warnings from the authorities for everyone to remain at home or take public transportation—I felt a strong urgency to still go to my mom’s bedside, and nothing could hold me back—not even the ice! There was a great uneasiness throughout my entire body, and I just could not rest until I got there.”
Starling-Matthews sees that many things in the world today are causing families to grow further apart, and she hopes her book offers readers an alternative way of looking at their relationships. “Hopefully ‘The Journey to Pentecost’ will inspire family members to develop closer relationships and support and mentor each other through celebratory, and even more challenging times.”
