In his new novel “757: Virginia Is for Hustlers” (published by iUniverse), author David Bashara Wyche delivers to readers an action-packed urban novel that shows the good and bad of street life. Through the tale of two brothers, he exposes the realities of looking for the fast buck and its true cost.
Portsmouth, Va. brothers Dialo and Pancho Mercias are groomed by their father to take over the family drug business. They soon find themselves in over their heads as their operation grows beyond their control. Dialo plans to escape the drug world, veering toward legitimate businesses, when cold blooded murder in the name of money, becomes a necessity. Pancho moves ahead at full speed, hoping to become a kingpin in the drug trade someday, but soon finds himself in the middle of a full-blown street war. Now Dialo must decide between giving up his dreams of leaving the game or saving his brother.
Wyche says readers will be able to see themselves or someone they know in the “757” characters. “This is no longer an inner-city epidemic,” he says. “Drugs plague the suburbs and rural communities too. Hopefully, more programs will educate and prevent youth from the pitfalls of street life. Although society determines moral standards for how we should conform, simply put, sometimes people just do all the wrong things for all the right reasons. Only those in desperate situations can determine what that is.”
