“In terms of location in Miami, as a retailer of authentic modern furniture, it doesn’t get any better than the Design District,” says DWR President and CEO John Edelman.
Stamford, Conn (PRWEB) December 13, 2012
Design Within Reach, Inc., today announces the January 2013 opening of its new 11,000-square-foot Studio in Miami. Located within the city’s Design District – a premiere destination for furniture retailers, interior designers, art galleries and luxury goods flagships – the Studio increases the company’s retail presence for the area’s consumers and trade professionals and provides the opportunity to highlight a more comprehensive product selection.
Founded in 1998, Design Within Reach made modern design accessible to the U.S. market through its groundbreaking catalog and e-commerce site. DWR has evolved into a destination for its exclusive collection of modern furniture and accessories to complement the iconic mid-century classics it has offered for years. Following a successful two-year period of product and partnership development, the new Miami Studio reflects a greatly expanded product assortment and revamped in-store customer experience, with merchandise presented in stylistically defined room vignettes outlining decor solutions for living, dining, outdoor, work and sleep.
“In terms of location in Miami, as a retailer of authentic modern furniture, it doesn’t get any better than the Design District,” says DWR President and CEO John Edelman. “Our new Studio allows us to show a broad variety of classic furniture, as well as pieces by up-and-coming designers, all within the context of a luxury shopping destination.” Working alongside professional design associates, clients may explore customizable furniture options and also visualize selections in their homes using DWR’s 3D Room Planner. Additionally, the new space includes an extensive representation of the outdoor living lifestyle; classic pieces by Carl Hansen, Cassina, Emeco, Fritz Hansen, Knoll®, Møller, Stua and more; and a dedicated area for the Herman Miller® Collection, highlighting both new pieces and updated editions of its iconic mid-century furniture.
To realize the new 11,000-square-foot retail store, DWR continues its partnership with New York-based architecture group Sayigh+Duman. Laith Sayigh led the Diller Scofidio + Renfro design team charged with creating the Lincoln Center Pedestrian Bridge and was a designer with Foster + Partners in London. Koray Duman is a LEED-certified architect and was the lead architect at Frederick Fisher and Partners, in charge of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. The firm created a successful DWR concept store at the company’s headquarters in Stamford, Conn., which opened in 2011.
“We’re excited to welcome Design Within Reach to the Miami Design District’s mix of luxury retail, design, art, architecture and restaurants,” says Dacra CEO and President Craig Robins. “DWR’s presentation of iconic design in an accessible context will offer an important resource to both residents of and visitors to South Florida. Their commitment to innovation and quality is evident in Syaigh + Duman’s design for the Studio, and the customer experience they are creating in our neighborhood.”
In addition to shopping the best in authentic modern design, clients of DWR Miami may look forward to regular events for the design community, such as To-the-Trade evenings, book signings and educational design sessions.
