The Not So Odd Couple is a realistic, inspirational love story for people of all persuasions, straight or gay. A tale of love, friendship, and loss, author Les Young relates a personal story of extraordinary partnership of two homosexuals embarking in a lifetime’s journey.
Young was born in small town Henty just before the Second World War commenced in 1939. At the age of 14, he already knew he was special. His teenage sexual impulses were roaring wildly, however, the urge was directed to other boys in town. Living in a small judgmental community led Young to make a firm resolution to move to a bigger town- a place he could freely meet people like him.
Young traveled from city to city in his quest to find an ideal place to support himself, as well as to find someone to whom he would share his everything with. From home to Albury, then London and Sydney, his path ultimately crosses with Warren on a Friday night sometime in April 1966. Realizing they were on the same wavelength, they hit off right away. Neither friends nor family hindered them from being together.
It was the best time of their lives. They flowered into adulthood and secured themselves with decent jobs. Their love for each other grew stronger as they got older. Together, they put up the house of their dreams and set out on voyages to distant places. But in late 2011, Warren was diagnosed with cancer. And in a few months, Young will hear Warren’s last words on his deathbed.
The Not So Odd Couple is a remarkable story which chronicles the journey of Young and Warren as they grow old in love with each other. Written in memory of Warren who breathed his last in July 2012, this personal book accounts the lifetime companionship of a rare and unlikely match up.
