Ms. Laurent pledges a percentage of sales from new book, “Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom," to support programs for victims of abuse in Los Angeles County.

Best-selling author Jennifer Laurent announced today that she will donate a percentage of proceeds from her new book, Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom, to Olive Crest, a local non-profit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating and educating at-risk children, and preserving the family. Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom launched November 27 on http://www.barnesandnoble.com and http://www.amazon.com. It is also available for purchase at the companion website http://www.LiveThroughTheHeart.com.

As a former clinical social worker who helped families in crisis, Ms. Laurent kept a journal to help gain perspective on the journey ahead, and to become more aware of her thoughts, feelings, parental and personal desires. This journal became Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom, her first book in which she shares her fundamental insights of conscious parenting.

"It is my hope that Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom will inspire readers to open their hearts and minds to explore a different way of parenting that can bring peace, joy and fulfillment within their families," stated Ms. Laurent. “I am delighted that, through this book, I can help children at Olive Crest experience these things as well.”

In addition to contributing proceeds from her book, Ms. Laurent has furthered her support of Olive Crest by recently joining its Los Angeles Board of Trustees. She has also donated 550 copies of Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom, which are being distributed to families in crisis, as well as foster and adoptive families that provide, safe, loving homes for Olive Crest children who have suffered from abuse. Not stopping there, Ms. Laurent is presently planning workshops featuring concepts and philosophies from the book so she can personally share them with Olive Crest families, and the community at large.

Olive Crest is thrilled and honored to be the recipient of Jennifer’s compassion and support,” said William Bedrossian, Executive Director of Olive Crest’s Los Angeles County region. “Her huge heart for children and professional expertise will go a long way in helping to change the stories of kids and families who have struggled with abuse and neglect.”

Ms. Laurent’s workshops will be open to the public and will take place during first quarter 2013. To attend, please call 562-866-8956 for details.
