The Captains Baseball Academy’s goals include a direct involvement with youth baseball in Northeast Ohio by providing camps, clinics, lessons and professional instruction. The Academy will also provide training sessions for players, teams and outside organizations as well as hosting tournaments, showcases and rental opportunities at Classic Park. Beginning in the summer of 2013, the Academy will be assembling a top-tier travel baseball organization as well.

Classic Park was built in 2003 and has seen more than three million fans come through the turnstiles for Captains baseball games and tens of thousands more for concerts, festivals and other events.     The Captains Baseball Academy will have access to the 4,000-square foot indoor batting facility that houses two full-sized batting cages and two regulation clay pitching mounds. The Academy will also host sessions and games on the playing field at Classic Park.

Coach Donovan, a Bedford native, has been coaching since 2001 and most recently spent the previous four years as the Director of Operations at Diamond Indoor Sports, a multi-sport facility in Westlake, Ohio. Coach Donovan’s athletic career includes a three-year varsity baseball career at St. Ignatius where he was also a standout wide receiver on the 1993 State and National Championship football team. He furthered his baseball career at UNC-Greensboro and spent the final two years of his eligibility at Elon University where he was an All-Conference and All-Region pitcher for the Phoenix baseball team. In 1998, T.J. was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the Major League Baseball Draft and spent five seasons pitching in various affiliated and independent leagues until retiring in the Spring of 2003.
