How Christmas Day of the Week Affects Shopping Behavior at Wine Country Gift Baskets

With Christmas on a Tuesday, shoppers are waiting until the last minute to buy gifts.

It looks like people waited a little longer this year.

Christmas day moving from a Sunday last year to Tuesday this year has apparently messed with many shoppers’ internal gifting clocks. Wine Country Gift Baskets, a premier supplier of gourmet food and wine gifts, has noticed a dramatic shift in when customers are purchasing. “Last year, we got really busy in early December”, says Steve Hofstetter, marketing manager. “It looks like people waited a little longer this year because we got hit about a week later than we had anticipated.”    Danny Diab, Wine Country Gift Baskets senior business analyst and lead forecaster is busier than Santa Claus this time of year as he tries to predict what and when customers will purchase.

It appears that shoppers are taking full advantage of the extra weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. “It’s difficult to figure out when customers are going to shop and purchase each year, as the day of Christmas moves,” Says Hofstetter. “I don’t even want to think about next year when we’re going to lose a full week because of the late Thanksgiving and Christmas falling right in the middle of the week – on Wednesday.”

Luckily Wine Country Gift Baskets caters to last minute shoppers looking for great deals. They have over 400 gourmet food and wine holiday gift baskets and gift towers in stock including more than 75 gifts that are available with free shipping and three dozen discounted gift baskets that are up to 40% off their original price. And if you’re the type that likes to cut it close, order by 6 pm California Wine Country time on 12/17 and your gifts will be delivered before Christmas with ground or free shipping, depending on which gift you chose. And if you really like live on the edge, order as late as Saturday, noon, PST on 12/22 and your basket will be delivered on Christmas Eve. Hofstetter says, “UPS made special arrangements for us so everything we ship out on the Saturday before Christmas will be delivered that Monday, Christmas Eve.” It’s easy to understand why both shoppers and retailers alike appreciate this extra weekend of shopping.
