Medical Marijuana Dispensary Blazes the Trail in Community Service.

Zen Healing's Veteran patients receive free glass container with a free quarter of high-quality medicine every three months.

Kramer has reminded both sides in the debate that “the medical marijuana movement is not concerned with decriminalizing or legalizing cannabis for recreational use, but instead concerned with getting patients what heals them best”.

Zen Healing Collective in West Hollywood announces the launch of their Veteran Patient Program. Veteran patients that provide proof of military service with a Zen Healing gift of appreciation: a free glass container with a free quarter of high-quality medicine every harvest. The harvest happens every three months. Kramer believes that patients have the right to participate in their own recovery and that doctors have the right to recommend any medication at their own discretion.

Over the past 9 years, humanitarian Andrew Kramer, owner of Zen Healing, has become well-respected for pioneering the medical marijuana debate in the State of California, which was explained in 944 Magazine’s 2006 feature on the dispensary, “Prescribing High: Local Activist Andrew Kramer Speaks Out On Medical Marijuana” by Lisa Falcone. He has always fought for patients’ rights beginning over 10 years ago in 1996 when he tagged along to vote on Ballot Proposition 215 with a family member. Seven years later when California Legislature passed SB 420 in 2003, a model for medical marijuana dispensaries where patients could fill their prescriptions was a established. Zen Healing is committed to protecting the rights of patients and doctors They do this by advocating for safe and legal access to medical marijuana for all appropriate therapeutic uses. Tim Dickinson, recently reported in the Rolling Stone Magazine Feature that “[t]he Department of Veterans confirmed that medical marijuana is “a legitimate course of treatment for soldiers returning from the front lines” in July 2010.

This is not Zen Healing's first time serving our community. Every Saturday since 2006 at Blessed Sacrament in the heart of Hollywood, California, Zen Healing sponsors a barbecue to feed the homeless. They begin serving food at 10am and go until noon or when they run out of meals – whichever comes first. Word of mouth has brought more and more homeless – recently about 150 plates were passed out. Kramer explains that “according to Los Angeles Almanac, there are an estimated 254,000 men, women, and children that experience homelessness in Los Angeles County. That’s 254,000 mouths to feed. My hopes are that we can continue to feed more and more of those mouths.”

Joe Klare of The 420 Times wrote about Zen Healing’s efforts - " Medical Marijuana Dispensary In CA Feeds Homeless Every Saturday " - telling of Zen Healing's community service efforts. He wrote that “all the great things dispensaries do and what they add to a community” is swept under the rug given very little press or acknowledgement. He even found after completing a "Google News search of ‘Zen Healing Collective’ that ZERO stories are returned about the program”. Lastly, Klare proclaimed how “[f]eeding the homeless is undoubtedly a great human-interest story, the kind news outlets love; so why the lack of coverage? And not just from written media; TV stations like to put videos and stories online as well, yet nothing mentioning this dispensary and their feeding of the downtrodden”.

The more coverage Zen Healing's community service efforts receive, the more people in the community will be effected. Join the community service trail Zen Healing has blazed for us. Kramer opened Zen Healing to help the patient community and he explains that he and Zen Healing are "only seeking to make a difference in the community in more than one way."
