1DegreeBio, the largest database of antibody products and reviews announced a significant extension of its ground-breaking community review web platform from antibodies to include all biological reagents.
1DegreeBio’s Biological Reagents Division, launching today at the Association of Cell Biology Meeting (ASCB) in San Francisco, currently offers more than one million products from over 180 leading brands across a range of categories including primary and secondary antibodies, kits, proteins, peptides and other lab reagents. The company’s Services segment, launched in June 2012, already covers over 200 companies and over 140 service types. The new Equipment and Digital Tools divisions, are scheduled to launch Spring 2013.
1DegreeBio is an independent resource for life scientists to share reviews on products and service providers, providing a simple way for scientists to find the best products and services while reducing the guesswork that can cost them valuable research time and resources.
"The success of 1DegreeBio is a reflection of its significant value in creating an effective way for scientists, on a massive scale, to help one another in finding the right reagents to do our experiments. Its product listings and review community are already twice as large as any competitor and growing faster. And even better, no ads or pop-ups - it’s built with scientists in mind," says Dr. Aled Edwards, Director and CEO of the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), an international public-private partnership that focuses on the structural and chemical biology of human proteins relevant to drug discovery.
1DegreeBio launched in July 2010 with only a few hundred products within their pilot antibody portal. The 1DegreeBio community now has over 150,000 scientists worldwide, and has experienced triple-digit growth in this year, providing the impetus to expand its platform.
“I love 1DegreeBio because it is the only place that allows me to see how well antibodies have worked for other researchers," says Megan Cleveland, 1DegreeBio user and postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins Research Institute, “I even use it to keep track of all the reagents I’ve used and how good they were – much easier than hunting through old lab notebooks.”
The company’s rapid growth has been fueled by investment from partners including Digital Science, as well as by grant support from several Canadian government-funded agencies including, Ontario Centres of Excellence, Mars Discovery District, and Federal Development Agency.
"1DegreeBio was started to support the incredible work done by members of the research community," says Alex Hodgson, Founder and CEO of 1DegreeBio, "this expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to the pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries."
1DegreeBio, Inc. is a privately owned Canadian corporation that operates 1DegreeBio.org, an open-access online platform designed to meet the needs of the biomedical research community. 1DegreeBio enables researchers to source the highest quality products for their research needs, and promotes first rate suppliers operating within this market.
