ScienceIndex.com is an Industrial and Mechanical Engineering Sciences Social Network established in 1998 to index the very latest news, headlines, references and resources from science journals, books and websites worldwide. The site covers news in all fields of biology, business, chemistry, engineering, geography, health, mathematics and society. In the field of Engineering Sciences, the site has now included the two new categories Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. While the Industrial Engineering section covers the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, and equipment, the Mechanical Engineering section covers design, production, and use of machines and tools for generation and application of heat and mechanical power.
ScienceIndex.com's Engineering Research and Development Category covers the design, manufacture, and operation of efficient and economical structures, machines, processes, and systems. Its eight sections include Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Communication, Control Systems, Electronics, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Users can receive alerts for newly published content in this category by subscribing to ScienceIndex.com's Engineering Research and Development Category RSS feed.
ScienceIndex.com's Industrial Engineering section covers the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, materials, and equipment. It currently contains 16,000 articles partly derived from 60 scientific Industrial Engineering journals. The latest articles in this category are also available through an Industrial Engineering Section RSS feed. One of the latest additions to this section evaluates heuristics for an oil delivery vehicle routing problem. The authors develop three metaheuristics to address such a problem by a tabu search (TS) algorithm, a large neighborhood search (LNS) heuristic based on this TS heuristic and another LNS heuristic based on a column generation (CG) heuristic. Their results indicate that the LNS methods outperform the TS heuristic. Another recently included article presents an estimation of the absolute camera pose for environment recognition of industrial robotics. The authors propose a sensor fusion approach which is based on non-linear filtering of multi-rate extended Kalman filter. They present experiments where an industrial robot moves the sensors (camera and inertial measurement unit) in an indoor-global positioning system (GPS)-based global referencing system. Since the absolute camera pose allows for a performance evaluation, the experimental results confirm the dynamics improvement of the pose.
ScienceIndex.com's Mechanical Engineering section covers design, production, and use of machines and tools for generation and application of heat and mechanical power. It currently contains over 18,500 articles partly derived from 140 scientific Mechanical Engineering journals. The latest articles in this section are also available through a Mechanical Engineering Section RSS feed. One recently included article in this section covers anisotropic hardening of sheet metals at elevated temperature. The authors developed new test equipment to measure the in-plane cyclic behavior of sheet metals at elevated temperatures and conclude that the newly developed device is well-suited to measure cyclic material behavior and especially the anisotropic and asymmetric hardening of light-weight materials. Another article provides evidence of long memory behavior in U.S. nuclear electricity net generation. The authors' study examines the degree of time persistence in U.S. nuclear electricity net generation using innovative fractional integration and autoregressive models with monthly data from 1973 to 2011. Their results indicate that nuclear electricity net generation is better explained in terms of a long memory model that incorporates persistence components and seasonality.
The Sciences Social Network currently contains over 1.99 million posts distributed among its' 68 categories. 83,600 users monitor nearly 14,200 journals publishing within the scope of the site. Since new science content is discovered in real-time, the delay between original publication and appearance at ScienceIndex.com is no more than two days. The site provides an advanced search feature which suggests up to ten closely related articles for a search and every displayed post.
