Appliancehouse.co.uk are sponsoring Simon Panther in his attempt to cycle unaided across South America from Lima to Buenos Aires. Follow his amazing adventure on our news blog as he attempts to travel the 3000 miles in time to catch his flight home!
Everyone likes a challenge and none more so than Simon Panther who is attempting to cross South America on a cycle with absolutely no back up or support at all. Simon is trying to cover the 3000 miles or so in just seven weeks, and to add a bit of spice to the adventure he has a non-refundable plane ticket booked out of Buenos Aires. So it’s Argentina or bust.
Simon’s adventure started with him landing in Lima, having to run the gauntlet of the Airport Security guards who tried to scam him into paying for his bike to be released, then diving headlong into rush hour Lima traffic without a map and no clear idea of which direction to go. He stopped to ask someone where he could buy a map and was taken for a one hour walk by an elderly lady to find a non-existent bookshop. So no map, no sense of direction and as if this wasn’t enough he topped the day off by falling off his bike, cutting his arm and bending the handlebars.
Armed with nothing more than a desire to succeed (which didn’t help him getting out of Lima), a couple of panniers stuffed with survival rations and a sturdy bicycle, oh and the sense of challenge in raising £3000, Simon‘s adventure continues with punctures, being chased by dogs and a 14,000ft climb over the back of the Andes.
Appliancehouse.co.uk are proud to support Simon’s effort and you can follow his progress on our news blog (http://news.appliancehouse.co.uk/news/charity-bike-ride-across-south-america-1-man-1-bike-7-weeks-and-3000-tough-miles/991775) . Simon is aiming to be back in the UK sometime in the New Year and you can follow his progress and see if he makes his plane on time.
