Essex County Correctional Facility and NaphCare, Inc. Receive Accreditation for Health Care Standards

Sheriff Frank Cousins of Essex County, MA and NaphCare, Inc. are pleased to announce the Essex County Correctional Facility in Middleton, MA, has received accreditation for healthcare standards from the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC). NaphCare has been the healthcare provider for the facility since 2008.

We are so pleased that our team's hard work has been recognized and are confident that they will continue to exceed expectations in providing quality care to our inmate population.

The NCCHC, a private, not-for-profit organization, developed an accreditation program for correctional institutions based upon nationally accepted standards for health services. A team composed of clinical professionals and other health administrators, who understand the correctional industry, make an assessment of the facility reviewing its medical and mental health services delivery program. The NCCHC survey team found the Essex County Correctional Facility to be in compliance with the organization's high standards.

"NaphCare has provided the Essex County Sheriff's Department with a comprehensive health care delivery system for all of its correctional facilities since July 1, 2008 and this achievement is a credit to our partnership with them," said Sheriff Cousins. "NaphCare's electronic medical records system, TechCareâ„¢, was customized directly to meet our needs and has streamlined the process to become more efficient. Furthermore, NaphCare has remained attentive to our needs and consistently maintains a highly qualified medical staff to serve Essex County's inmate population," he said.

The accreditation process is voluntarily performed by clinical professionals to evaluate whether the facility's health services meet the NCCHC's Standards for Health Services. The Standards include health care services and support, governance and administration, inmate care and treatment, personnel and training, health promotion and disease prevention, special needs and services, health records and medical-legal issues. During Essex County's accreditation process, the NCCHC team reviewed the facility's medical policies and procedures, inspecting medical records and conducting interviews.
