Simplifying Migration to Centralized Business Office and a Single Patient Accounting System

For BJC, the Connance solution is about ensuring our patients have great experiences in the business office, realizing a solid business ROI, and reducing performance risk amidst transitions.

Connance, Inc. (http://www.connance.com), a provider of innovative, predictive analytic-based programs that transform healthcare financial performance, and BJC HealthCare (BJC), one of the largest nonprofit health care organizations in the United States delivering services to residents primarily in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions, today announced the deployment of Connance technologies to improve the performance of BJC’s new network of outsourced partners and streamline presumptive charity efforts.

The Connance solution leverages its cloud-based technology to integrate financial and activity data of multiple, third-party vendors into a single reporting and rules-driven database, automate key work processes, and enable better communication and collaboration of all stakeholders. For BJC, the platform connects to multiple business offices, each on different patient accounting systems, and combines them for integrated placement and management. As BJC migrates to a centralized business office and single patient accounting system, Connance technology simplifies the transition process and legacy inventory management.

As part of the deployment, BJC is also leveraging Connance analytics for automated presumptive charity review. The solution automatically reviews all accounts as they end normal billing cycles to identify households meriting financial assistance but unresponsive to proactive counseling outreach. The output of the analytic is automatically integrated into BJC’s placement logic.

“Connance’s solution created a virtual self-pay centralized business office for us, even though we still had hospital business offices and different patient accounting systems in operation,” said Tracy Berry, Vice President of BJC Revenue Cycle. “With the technology, we are able to more easily migrate to our longer-term vision of a true CBO as well as a single patient accounting system. We also are firmly standing behind our commitment to those in need of healthcare in the St. Louis community. For BJC, the Connance solution is about ensuring our patients have great experiences in the business office, realizing a solid business ROI, and reducing performance risk amidst transitions.”

“We are proud to be working with BJC, one of the preeminent healthcare institutions in the country,” said Steve Levin, CEO of Connance. “Their CBO and patient accounting system efforts are major undertakings, and we are excited that Connance was able to support these critical initiatives. Connance is all about helping providers get more from their revenue cycle – more financial performance, more patient satisfaction, more control.”
