Developers of the Zurmo Open Source Customer Relationship Management application today announced the General Availability (GA) release of Zurmo Version 1.0. The release is the culmination of two years of full-time software development by seasoned engineers in the Open Source CRM field. Zurmo 1.0 addresses three significant pillars to a successful customer facing solution – Users, Developers, and the Enterprise.

Zurmo is for Users
“In 2002, 47% of CRM implementations failed and today that statistic remains the same. The total lack of progress in our industry to improve this number is pathetic. We believe in CRM, but users continue to perceive it as a clunky, burdensome tool that wastes their time and only provides value to management. This space needs a major disruption and user adoption needs to be the focus,” states Zurmo Co-Founder Ray Stoeckicht. “Zurmo makes CRM enchanting. This might be the first time in the history of the world that the word 'enchanting' has been used to describe a CRM system,” continues Stoeckicht.

Built-in gaming mechanics incentivize users to follow CRM best practices and aim to make the application more enjoyable than traditional CRM systems. Co-workers engage in friendly competition with one another and receive points and badges for categories such as creating new business, managing time effectively, and using the system for internal communication rather than email. Zurmo is equipped to fully handle internal Social CRM functionality. Social Feeds serve as a central stage where users can tout their accomplishments, make announcements, and solicit advice from co-workers. Social Conversations are more for sensitive communication where access is limited to relevant participants. Zurmo Social CRM is intended to severely cut back on internal email communication so that users can spend more time interfacing with customers. Learn more about Social CRM and Zurmo.

But it’s not all about fun and games. Zurmo helps users get their job done through complete Sales Force Automation, Activity Management, email tools for communicating with customers, and more. Learn about all of the Zurmo application’s features.

Zurmo for is for a Community of Open Source Software Developers
“Zurmo exists because we are determined to build the best engineered Open Source CRM on the planet,” states Zurmo Co-Founder and CEO Jason Green. “With over 300,000 lines of clean, Test Driven developed code and two years of hard work and sleepless nights, our skilled team has crafted a piece of software that is stable and ready for companies to use. This isn’t vaporware. Zurmo is production ready and built to last,” continues Green. Over the past six months there have been over 2,000 installations of Zurmo running in 75 countries worldwide.

The common ethos among the Zurmo founding team, developers, and contributors, is a strong commitment to open source. The robustness and flexibility of the application make it a powerful foundation for building customized solutions and industry verticals. The Zurmo team actively works with other software development teams who utilize the software as a springboard for launching unique projects of their own.

Zurmo is built for the Enterprise
“We have been using Zurmo to power our real estate investment company for nearly a year,” states Tracy Eckert of Ecksodus, an early adopter of Zurmo. “The application serves as the backbone for a powerful platform that could not have been built using any of the other Open Source CRM software we tried.”

A previous press release details the entire Ecksodus case study and how the company has adopted Zurmo as the core system for centralizing millions of data points and running the company's entire operations. Zurmo is being used by a diverse group of organizations both internationally and in the US. Examples range from a UK Rugby team to a US-based government contracting business.

Additional Enterprise class functionality will be added to the Zurmo Open Source product with the upcoming release of Zurmo 1.5. Features include Workflow, Reporting, Mobile access, and Email Marketing. See related story.
