“I am a first time homeowner, and any incentive to continue to be a homebuyer would help me and others like me.” -- Maya Ram, Moorhead, MN
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 19, 2012
Jonathan Slater is showing that one person can make a difference.
The Boston resident's new online petition -- “Don’t Drop the Mortgage Deduction” -- is gaining meaningful momentum just days after being launched.
The petition to help prevent Federal legislation to eliminate the homeowner’s mortgage deduction already has more than 150 signatories from MA to CA, and MN to LA.
Last week, Slater purchased the URL: http://www.DontDropIt.org and published a simple 1 page website with a link to the online petition on Change.org.
“The petition has now gone viral…people are showing their support by signing the petition from all over the country. Most of the recent signatories are people I don’t even know from places I've never been, like Maya Ram from Moorhead, Minnesota,” says Slater.
Upon signing the petition, Ms. Ram commented: “I am a first time homeowner, and any incentive to continue to be a homebuyer would help me and others like me.”
"Many Americans are deeply troubled by the Obama Administration's attempt to destroy such an important American birthright," says Slater. "This cuts across party lines and will have the effect of making home ownership more expensive at a time when we can least afford it," he adds.
He notes that he fears the homeowner's mortgage interest deduction will be a victim of the fiscal cliff which is being debated by the President and Congress in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
Ms. Ram's perspectives as well as those of many other US taxpayers can be viewed on the petition's webpage at Change.org:
