Pyramid Healthcare Solutions, a leading provider of revenue cycle management services for the healthcare industry, has helped Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, Va., achieve Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation for its cancer program. The three-year accreditation award with commendation from the American College of Surgeon’s CoC acknowledges that the hospital provides a high standard of cancer care.
“We are very proud to receive accreditation with commendation again,” says Hamed Khosravi, M.D., chairman of the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center Cancer Committee. “To be regarded as a high quality cancer program at a community hospital demonstrates the compassionate care and expertise that our multidisciplinary team exhibits.”
For Sentara, Pyramid provides comprehensive cancer registry services that include CoC survey assessment and preparation, abstracting of cancer cases using established CoC, state and facility criteria, follow-up and elimination of backlogs, and overseeing all cancer registry operations.
The American College of Surgeon’s CoC Accreditation program sets quality-of-care standards for cancer programs. Certification is awarded to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
“Earning CoC approval is an important accomplishment, and one that all of us at Sentara are very proud to have earned,” said Nathan Van Genderen, chief financial officer with Sentara. “This award recognizes our commitment to quality care, ongoing improvement and public accountability for the services we provide. We appreciate Pyramid’s assistance in helping us earn this achievement for our cancer program.”
Pyramid also plays a vital role with Sentara’s cancer committee, promoting role and responsibility awareness, ensuring that members meet all standards, clarifying the functions of the cancer registry, working closely with the committee chairman, and ensuring department heads provide regular reporting for all cancer-related activities.
“CoC accreditation validates the current strength of Sentara’s cancer program,” said Jay Hutchinson, chief operating officer with Pyramid Healthcare Solutions. “It’s an example of how utilizing seasoned Certified Tumor Registrars can improve registry programs, standards implementation and compliance, and result in national accreditation.”
