GREE, a leading mobile social gaming company, recently announced a three million dollar investment in MunkyFun, Inc., a San Francisco-based independent mobile game developer. Founded in 2008 by three industry veterans, MunkyFun has garnered industry and player accolades for its high production values and award-winning hit titles such as My Horse and Archetype. The studio is planning to launch a series of exciting new titles in 2013.

"Smartphones and tablets are fast becoming the gaming platform of choice for the mass market. The founders at MunkyFun recognized this early and built an exceptional team and culture focused on producing beautiful free-to-play mobile games of outstanding quality, balance, and depth," said Shanti Bergel, SVP of Corporate Development, GREE International, Inc. "With its proprietary visualization and multi-player technology, MunkyFun is now uniquely positioned to take advantage of maturing consumer tastes in this space. All of us at GREE are very excited to have the opportunity to work with MunkyFun and to bring the next generation of mobile gaming to players around the world."

MunkyFun will also be growing their San Francisco team and are looking to add top talent. They are currently focused on hiring for several positions including a 2D/UI artist, analytics/data jockeys, and a senior game designer. In addition to the new hires, the studio will be moving into an historic new building in the heart of Jackson Square, one of San Francisco’s most well-known neighborhoods and conveniently located near public transit. The new space promises to be dynamic and configurable with a goal of allowing teams to move their desks-on-wheels to ensure effective information sharing and teamwork.

"The games industry has evolved incredibly over the past few years and as a result we have seen a rise of tremendous new opportunities for both developers and users. By working with GREE, we know we can bring innovative experiences to new users worldwide through the combination of our respective expertise in the mobile games market," said Nick Pavis, CEO & Co-Founder of MunkyFun. "Additionally, we are growing and have an eye on bringing amazing new talent to the team, helping us to build the next generation of mobile game experiences."

GREE continues to focus on building the world’s leading global mobile social gaming ecosystem for users and developers around the world by developing robust content alongside key global partners. The investment in MunkyFun will allow GREE to evolve the mobile gaming market by delivering engaging game experiences based on a wide range of new technologies and free-to-play knowledge to a growing global audience
