New Zealand – (December 17, 2012) – Irene Chain-Kalinowski’s 32-year career in the field of midwifery has given her experiences and lessons that colored her life. In her memoir, she traces her remarkable journey and, in the process, reveals a brilliantly wrought tale of devotion, purpose and passion; all of which lie at The Heart and Soul of Midwifery.
Kalinowski’s work has brought her to different places including the Middle East, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. It has also given her a wealth of realizations and experience on life and the meaning of duty. Her book mirrors both the sweep of personal history—including the author’s private struggles and triumphs— and the professional insights that she gained on the job. She explores the finer points of a noble work in the light of the unique experiences that helped her fulfill her purpose. Her purpose for writing the book is to share her compassion to others. She says,
“I felt the need to write something about my journey through midwifery so I can share the compassion for midwifery that I have held for over 26 years. It has not been a journey without challenges, and I’m still practicing with the same compassion and for that I acknowledge the support from my family, professional colleagues, community support groups and the women I have worked in partnership with over the years.”
A triumphant testament of one woman’s passion for her work, The Heart and Soul of Midwifery will prove to be a valuable source of insights, advice and inspiration for both newcomers and veterans in the midwifery profession.
