MT is often the only option for large volumes of content, and most clients are pleasantly surprised by its accuracy.
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 20, 2012
The team will be based at Lingo24’s new office in Manchester, due to open in January. It will initially consist of at least four experienced MT developers, as well as two Account Directors. This is a significant step for the company, which was founded by Christian Arno in 2001. Lingo24 also has offices in Edinburgh and London, and international hubs in Romania, Germany, Panama, the USA and the Philippines.
Lingo24 will be building high quality translation software for clients, customised to their sector, style and other requirements. MT will also be integrated into Lingo24’s new Coach technology, which is designed to improve productivity among human translators.
Professor Way has more than 25 years experience in MT research and development. He built up one of the world’s leading research groups in Computational Linguistics at Dublin City University, and has consulted with various translation companies. He is currently President of the European Association for Machine Translation, and the International Association for Machine Translation.
He said: “We are very excited about this move, and believe we have the capability to take Lingo24 to the next level. We will be building industry-leading bespoke MT solutions for large clients. These are much more accurate than web-based translation tools, since they are tailored to the client’s specific use-case requirements.
“Christian’s commitment and enthusiasm to fully embrace what MT has to offer matches my vision, and made my decision to join the company a very easy one. I expect the team to make a big impact very quickly.
“This is still a relatively young science, but it is improving rapidly. The web is more multinational than ever, but only a very small volume of what could be translated is actually being translated currently. MT is often the only option for large volumes of content, and most clients are pleasantly surprised by its accuracy.”
Mr Arno said: "This is a major step for Lingo24, and heralds our emergence as a genuine global player within the industry. There are few if any MT professionals with Andy's mix of academic, technical and commercial experience.
“We’ve always had a strong focus on developing technology to automate parts of the translation process and improve productivity. This will allow us to expand the range of services we offer, and fit every client’s budget and need.”
Mr Arno, a languages graduate, set up Lingo24 from his parents’ spare room in Aberdeenshire. He has built it into a global translation company, with more than 180 staff, and over 4000 professional linguists worldwide translating 60 million words a year. Turnover in 2012 was more than £7 million.
Lingo24 provides high quality translation 24/7 in all major business sectors, with clients including the UN, the World Bank, Save the Children Fund, American Express, and Orange. The company was recently awarded the prestigious Excellence Award by TAUS, the Translation Automation User Society, for its Coach technology.
