One of our trademarks when designing a group cruise or incentive travel program is thinking outside the box to deliver the “WOW” factor. It’s all about making something beyond just memorable – we always strive for unforgettable!

When Cruise Dreams says, “cruise lines have something for everyone.” It’s not just talk. Kim Gibbons, founder and president of Cruise Dreams, an agency known for group travel, laughs when she describes what’s new at sea. Some of the latest spiffs shipboard range from daredevil to nostalgic with everything imaginable in between for your cruise group. “You can chill out, slide, hang, whirl, twirl, hang ten and hangout in some unbelievable shipboard structures. You can’t imagine the variety. Which is just about perfect for family reunion travel, or groups that are a variety of ages, genders, and have very different lifestyles.”
Cruise Dreams picked Ten Things You Never Thought You’d Do on a Cruise Ship based specifically on the uniqueness and “WOW” factor. “One of our trademarks when designing a group cruise or incentive travel program is thinking outside the box to deliver the “WOW” factor. It’s all about making something beyond just memorable – we always strive for unforgettable,” says Gibbons.
#1 Zip line on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas or Allure of the Seas. Not for the faint of heart. You start on the Sports Deck, suspended nine decks high and zip across an open air atrium from one end of the ship to another. Secured footwear required so you don’t fling a flip-flop!
#2 Hang-Ten on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom and Oasis class ships. 40 foot long surf simulator gives you every opportunity to ride a wave…or wipe out- audience guaranteed!
#3 Watercoaster. Aqua duck begins on Deck 12 of the Disney Cruise Lines, Disney Dream and speeds through an acrylic tube, through the Forward Funnel, and then drops into a lazy river. 765 feet of breathtaking views – that is of course if you keep your eyes open.
#4 Scuba – in the pool. You can get scuba certified aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis, Freedom and Voyager-class ships on Caribbean itineraries. Or just enjoy the plunge, get introduced, brush up your skills or sign on for a whole package including dives at different port side reefs.
#5 Ice Skate. Isn’t there something a little fun and magical about ice skating aboard a ship sailing through the oceans of the world? Most Royal Caribbean ships have rinks and at night, they offer a fabulous ice revue by professional skaters for your entertainment.
#6 Really CHILL OUT! Put on your thermal undies for a visit to the SVEDKA Ice Bar, one of only 14 in the world and the only true ice bars at sea. You’ll find this aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines Epic and Breakaway (launching in 2013). Seating and even glasses are made of ice.
#7 Ride a Carousel. Families and nostalgia buffs will enjoy the handcrafted, full-sized, traditional and one of a kind, specially made carousels aboard the Oasis and Allure of the Seas from Royal Caribbean.
#8 Visit a planetarium – The one and only shipboard planetarium is found aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. You can take a virtual tour into outer space, view the stars and journey to the moon or take a course on celestial navigation – at sea.
#9 Mow the lawn. Not really – the mowing part. Celebrity Cruises' Silhouette, has a 12,000 square foot lawn of real grass where you can dine in one of two restaurants with outdoor seating, or take lessons in an open air art studio or even rent a cabana.
#10 Dine with Shrek. While his table manners are atrocious, the young (and young-at-heart) will get a kick out of character meals, shipboard encounters and 3D movie marathons aboard Royal Caribbean ships with the DreamWorks Experience. Of course Disney Cruises feature Disney and Pixar characters while Norwegian Cruise Lines features Nickolodeon.
This is just a small glimpse of what’s new to do aboard a cruise ship. Cruising is no longer just about the ports of call - many cruise ships are unique destinations in themselves - making cruising an even better value when compared to a land vacation – for individual, reunion travel, group travel or incentive cruises! Cruise Dreams specializes in finding the cruise line, ship, itinerary and experience that makes every moment unforgettable – on or off the ship. With invaluable advice about activities in port, preferred shore excursions, they provide everything a passenger needs to make memories to last a lifetime!
