The easier an asset is to sell, the better price it will receive, so carefully considering the type of gold to invest in will benefit the investor when the time comes to sell.

Following an increased number of queries about the best kind of gold to invest in, Physical Gold has published a guide to advise customers.

Physical Gold recommend gold as a medium to long term investment but before beginning to invest in gold, an investor must plan for when they want to sell it and realise its profit. To advise investors on selling gold, Physical Gold recommends:

  •     The easier an asset is to sell, the better price it will receive, so carefully considering the type of gold to invest in will benefit the investor when the time comes to sell. A gold with a good liquidity is advised. Physical Gold does not but gold jewellery, dust or nuggets and only sells investment grade gold such as bars and coins.
  •     Only opt for well recognised liquid coins and bars. The price you will receive depends on the manufacturer of a bar or coin. An obscure bar or lesser known coin won’t sell as well. It is advised to consult a dealer when buying gold to determine its liquidity.
  •     The size of the gold can also have an effect on its selling ability. Bullion bars are commonly traded in 1oz, 50g, 100g and 1kg. Larger and smaller sizes are less well traded. Coins that are 1oz and sovereign are very liquid.
  •     It is important to keep coins in good condition to receive a better price when it is sold. Physical Gold recommend sticking with 22 karat as it is more resilient than 24 karats. Bullion bars should be treated with care.
