Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Medical Education Resources, and Consensus Medical Communications are pleased to announce the HCV Nova roundtable meetings will launch in January 2013. HCV Nova is an educational program series of case-based, small-group, continuing medical education (CME) roundtable meetings conducted at various locations across the United States. The HCV CME meetings will discuss brand new drug therapies to help fight against this common chronic bloodborne infection.
Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, infectious disease specialists, and other health care practitioners who are involved in the treatment of patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection are invited to attend.
Effective management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) continues to pose a challenge for health care practitioners. The discovery, development, and availability of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) offers new treatment options and the possibility of improved outcomes for newly diagnosed patients as well as those who have experienced a relapse or failed to respond to previous treatment; however, their use introduces new challenges and adds to the complexity of HCV treatment and care.
The purpose of the HCV NOVA initiative is to provide specific, targeted educational opportunities for clinicians who are involved in the management of patients with HCV. The NOVA meetings will incorporate a case-based approach to present the most current data on the following topics:
- Screening for HCV – new recommendations;
- Identifying optimal candidates for triple therapy: treat now or wait?;
- Refining best practices in HCV care;
- Evaluating emerging data on novel treatment approaches;
- Subtle ways to diagnose cirrhosis without a biopsy;
- Things not to forget in a patient who has cirrhosis; and
- Novel triple-and quad-therapy approaches.
Upon completion of the HCV CME program, participants should be better able to:
- Recognize value of treatment to positively effect long-term outcomes, and to identify optimal candidates for immediate versus deferred therapy in anticipation of new DAAs; and
- Evaluate the potential impact of currently approved, and DAAs in Phase III, on HCV treatment decision making and clinical outcomes.
