Having suffered firsthand the pain and humiliation of abuse, author Nervona presents to readers her new book “You Can't Have My Pearls” (published by AuthorHouse). In it, she urges readers to remember a simple maxim: “Value yourself, as you would value a strand of precious pearls.”
The best introduction to “You Can’t Have My Pearls” is found in its preface:
“This book is about the abuse I suffered as a child and while married to a Pentecostal preacher. I share my experiences and talk about how I overcame the abuse. If you or others you know might be suffering or have suffered abuse in his or her life, this book is for you. I have pondered about whether I should write this book, and I finally decided to do it. If nothing else, maybe I will be able to help those who find themselves in the same or similar situation. There is no reason to put up with nonsense in your life. Your life is far too important to let others have control over it or manipulate it.”
Nervona describes her experiences in complete detail so that readers will be able to see how the abuse was allowed to begin and how it continued to happen. She discusses her family and her faith, and notes how she was unable to prevent what happened. In the end, she was forced to overcome her obstacles by herself.
Despite the pain she recounts, Nervona hopes her readers will find “You Can’t Have My Pearls” to be an uplifting book. “There is a life of happiness after abuse,” she says. “Once you move toward a life without abuse you will find your self-worth and happiness.”
