More and more people are looking to escape the cold, damp weather and spend the Christmas period in warmer climates.
(PRWEB UK) 19 December 2012
Figures released by top department store Selfridges have shown an increase in items usually bought for holidays over recent weeks. The sales of bikinis, kaftans, hats and designer luggage have soared mainly due to the rise in people celebrating Christmas abroad in warmer climates such as Barbados and Thailand. The sales showed an increase of double compared to last year, especially higher end goods including swimwear priced on average £100 and even more expensive brand name luggage. According to the London store luggage sales have increased by 91 percent since this time last year.
Helen Attwood, Selfridges Travel and Lingerie Buying Manager explained, ‘We always see an increase in sales at Christmas but news of the cold spell hitting the UK over Christmas is sending everyone packing.’
A spokesperson from Suitcase.org.uk, the leading designer luggage outlet, commented on the figures, ‘More and more people are looking to escape the cold, damp weather and spend the Christmas period in warmer climates. This of course means that consumers search for new beach items and other items connected with holidays such as suitcases. Even more savvy shoppers take advance of pre season sales and buy cheap designer luggage so they are fully prepared when the time comes around. The findings however are a little shocking considering we are only just out of a double dip recession.’
Suitcase.org.uk continues to follow consumer shopping patterns throughout the year.
