On December 25, 2012, debt collection agency, Rapid Recovery Solution, commented on a This Is Money article by Ruth Lythe, regarding bull debt collectors harassing the innocent.
According to the This Is Money article, “Thousands of customers at Britain’s biggest High Street names are being hounded by debt collectors — even though they do not owe a penny.” The article states that a recent investigation has shown that, banks, insurers, and utility firms, are threatening consumers by telling them their homes will be raided and property sold if they do not pay their debts.
According to the article, “Many are the victims of mistaken identity, often do not owe anything and have never been in debt.” The article mentions that sadly consumers fork up the fee that they do not actually owe, in fear that their homes will actually be raided by bailiffs.
The article informs that, “Complaints about debt collectors have doubled over the past six months to 1,020 according to the Financial Ombudsman Service.” According to the article, federal oversight of debt collection will be implemented next year to crack down on these rogue firms.
John Monderine, CEO of debt collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution, offered his comments on the news. “My advice to the consumers being harassed by the rogue firms, is to not give in. These firms can not legally raid your home over debt collection reasons,” says Monderine. “Rapid Recovery Solution would never make the mistake of collecting on innocent people, that is just unacceptable.”
