LEL Caribe, a division of Leading Edge Logistics (LEL), one of the fastest growing non-asset based third party logistics companies, celebrates its one year anniversary. George Kuemmerle, Executive Vice President of LEL Caribe, called the first year “highly successful and fantastic with solid plans in the year ahead to continue to deliver world class, cost effective logistics services throughout the Caribbean as well as expand into Central America and other international locations.” LEL Caribe’s growth has prompted relocation to a much larger facility at 18,000 sq. ft. in Jacksonville, FL, effective January 2, 2013.
Since its inception a year ago, LEL Caribe went from one container a week to an average of 60 containers per week for an annual total of more than 3,000 containers propelling LEL Caribe to become the third largest consolidator in the Caribbean. These containers are a combination of freight for Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico and from foreign markets. LEL Caribe brought in a Dominican Republic-based NVOCC partner which opened Dominican Republic service which has grown to 300 containers a year on average.
Kuemmerle attributes the company’s main growth to acquisitions made earlier in the year.
“Our acquisition of two Non Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCC), C&F Logistics of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Horizon International Shipping of Miami and San Juan opened mains to international locations such as China, South Central America and the Caribbean including Mexico, the Cayman Islands and Panama. We are now bringing containers in from China to Puerto Rico, said Kuemmerle. “In Puerto Rico and Miami, we are providing warehousing and distribution services for Fortune 500 companies,” he added.
In addition to Puerto Rico, LEL Caribe is a single source vendor with services that include handling ocean shipment between the US and Dominican Republic. The Elizabeth, NJ operation has weekly sailings for less than truckload ( LTL) and full container load (FCL), the Miami operation biweekly sailing for LTL and FCL and San Juan, PR service is 3 times a week for LTL and FCL. LEL Caribe has operations in Los Angeles, CA, Elizabeth, NJ, Jacksonville, Miami Florida, the company’s 100,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Carolina, Puerto Rico and soon will open operations in Chicago.
