EnOcean is the originator of patented energy harvesting wireless technology. The company manufactures and markets energy harvesting wireless sensor solutions for use in building and industrial applications as well as in other application fields such as smart home, smart metering, logistics or transport. The EnOcean technology combines miniaturized energy converters with ultra-low-power electronics and robust RF communication. For 10 years, leading product manufacturers have chosen wireless modules from EnOcean to enable their system ideas.
EnOcean is also a founding member and a promoter of the EnOcean Alliance, a consortium of more than 300 companies from the world's building sector with the mission of creating innovative solutions for sustainable buildings. Self-powered wireless technology from EnOcean has been successfully deployed in more than 250,000 buildings worldwide. The EnOcean wireless protocol is standardized internationally as ISO/IEC 14543-3-10, which is optimized for wireless solutions with ultra-low power consumption and energy harvesting.
Global Public Relations Objectives
EnOcean identified its critical goals and objectives for the audiences it was trying to reach with its energy harvesting wireless technology. After a PR evaluation and successful PR program using Schwartz PR, it was decided that a larger investment in a global multi-continent PR initiative would help establish them in a thought leadership position and grow the EnOcean Alliance in terms of members and popularity.
Schwartz Public Relations, a Eurocom PR member agency in Germany, had already proved highly successful in gaining widespread visibility for EnOcean and its energy harvesting wireless technology in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Expanding this to a multi-continent PR program with the Eurocom Worldwide partner network was a logical next step decision, especially as its member agencies specialize in high tech, scaleable and highly pro-active campaigns.
The methodology and principles behind Eurocom Worldwide would help how the EnOcean Alliance would come together to talk about their products and company before going out to the public. In addition, it would help hone in on differentiating messaging propositions that elevate the Alliance as a group with a thought leadership vision in the industry.
To meet EnOcean’s objectives, Eurocom Worldwide member agencies: Schwartz PR in Germany, Ripple Effect Communications in the US, Hardcom in France and EMG in China strategized, collaborated and delivered a versatile, comprehensive, multi-tiered PR program to convey clear, captivating and consistent messages that position EnOcean as an industry thought leader.
“We were impressed with how fast and effective Eurocom Worldwide’s team of agencies grasped our technology and how well they were able to optimize a global strategic approach to convey to the media and analysts the value EnOcean delivers,” said Angelika Dester, EnOcean Public Relations Manager.
Eurocom Worldwide PR Results
As part of a global thought leadership campaign, Schwartz PR arranged many media events for EnOcean and the EnOcean Alliance such as roundtables at notable German trade fairs like ISH, electronica and Light+Building. The agency also organized and coordinated one-on-one interviews with key journalists positioning EnOcean as the originator of patented energy harvesting wireless sensor technology. The Eurocom Worldwide Partner increased EnOcean and the EnOcean Alliance’s results in all relevant media by establishing a sustainable media contact program. Not only were they able to achieve good results in specialized media, but also in top tier daily and business media such as VDI, Sueddeutsche Zeitung and Wirtschaftswoche.
As part of EnOcean’s emphasis in Europe, Schwartz PR was joined by Hardcom based in France, in which the agency organized a press conference and a media tour for EnOcean that resulted in 11 successful interviews. Hardcom’s campaign helped further position EnOcean as a leader in energy harvesting solutions. In addition, Hardcom not only secured bylined article placements, but also generated inclusion of EnOcean and its solution in some 80 articles within the first seven months of the campaign.
In the first three months of EnOcean’s campaign targeting the US, Ripple Effect Communications organized a media tour to introduce EnOcean’s new CEO and their exciting news of becoming an ISO/IEC standard. The agency arranged 20-plus interviews with such prominent trade magazines as ECN, EDN, Building Operating Management, High Performance Buildings, Wireless Design and Development, etc. at one of EnOcean’s more prominent industry tradeshows. In addition, Ripple Effect secured 14 feature stories including thought leadership features (or bylined articles) leading up to the tradeshow in such publications as Product Design and Development, Connected World, Automation.com, EE Times, Green Tech Media and Design News to name a few.
At the same time that Schwartz PR, Hardcom and Ripple Effect Communications were building momentum and increasing visibility in Europe and the US, EMG China had kicked off their campaign to start to build EnOcean’s profile in the local China marketplace. At the Electronica China exhibition held in Shanghai in March, EMG organized seven interviews with leading Tech and IT media during the show.
The interviews were led by spokespersons Armin Anders, VP Product Management and Co-Founder of EnOcean, and Nan Xiao, Sales Manager EnOcean China, and have generated notable coverage in the local trade media. EMG China also promoted the EnOcean Alliance at the Electrical Building Technology event held in Guangzhou that turned out to be a successful undertaking.
All four Eurocom Worldwide agencies liaised together regularly to form one cohesive, multi-cultural, multi-lingual team that really orchestrated a well thought out, high-level global PR initiative to support EnOcean’s strategic vision to become the world’s thought leader in energy harvesting wireless technology. The team also set for the goal to help expand EnOcean Alliance’s consortium of companies working collaboratively to offer the largest installed base of field-proven wireless building automation networks in the world.
