Together we can make a difference, one handbag at a time.

Online handbag retailer, LAGA Handbags today announced recent purchase of LAGA coin purses by promotion company of movie “The Impossible” which is about the tsunami that ravaged SE Asia, making its debut on December 21, 2012.

Today, just short of eight years after the largest natural disaster of our lifetime occurred, a movie about the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Southeast Asia will open at box offices around the country.

The movie, entitled “The Impossible” which stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, tells the true story of an English couple, played by Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, and their three children. It starts as the family begins their Christmas vacation in Thailand, with the intention of spending a few days at a tropical paradise resort. However, their idyllic vacation is interrupted on the morning of December 26, 2004, when a devastating tsunami interrupts their relaxation and destroys the coastal zone. The family is separated in the surviving apocalypse, and they begin a desperate search to reunite.

It took almost eight years to make. Finally the story is told on the big screen.

But one small company has been telling this story since 2006…one small company who has been doing what they can to make a difference in the lives of the actual people who suffered through the disaster itself.

LAGA Designs International, Inc. has taken on the huge task of providing long-term sustainability to tsunami survivors in the province of Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia, the most severely affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

Founders of LAGA, Roy and Louise van Broekhuizen, have dedicated the last seven years to bringing an art-form indigenous to the people of Aceh and sharing it with the world, telling their story over and over again with each sale of the hand-guided embroidered handbags and accessories that can only be found in this part of the world.

LAGA Handbags has garnered the attention of people all over the world.

Laga Handbags can be found at the Smithsonian Institute’s Freer Sackler Museum in Washington D.C., in the home of First Lady Barbara Bush as well as several celebrities like Amy Grant (singer-songwriter ), Brandy Norwood (recording artist and actress), Pauley Perrette (actress, “Abby” on NCIS ), Kim Coles (comedienne/actress “In Living Color”, “Living Single” ), Anita Perry (First Lady of the state of Texas ), and even last year with Whitney Houston before her tragic and untimely death.

And they were successful in getting the story and their handbags in front of millions of viewers on television via the Oprah Winfrey Show which aired on April 13, 2010.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film The Impossible a perfect four star rating, praising the performances of Watts and McGregor, as well as the Spanish direction by Juan Antonio Bayona. He would go on to call it "one of the best films of the year."

Laga Designs International, Inc. does not receive accolades for its work. They just continue to do it.
