Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 27, 2012
SeekingArrangement.com conducted a national survey which polled 10,000 women in America to gauge their understanding of the Fiscal Cliff and its consequences. The results showed that 71% have little or no knowledge of what it meant, while 79% do not know how it will affect their lives, should the Fiscal Cliff take place.
According to a survey by the Pew Research Center, about four-in-ten Americans (42%) admit they understand the impact of these measures “not too well” (23%) or “not at all well” (17%) at means women are two times less likely to understand the impact of the Fiscal Cliff, than that of the national average.
“We were able to determine which women fully understood the Fiscal Cliff,” says Brandon Wade, CEO and Founder of SeekingArrangement.com. “There are over 800,000 American women on SeekingArrangement.com ranging from all types of demographics, backgrounds and levels of education.”
The study analyzed the data of those who answered the poll including age, education, and income level.
The following results integrated knowledge of the Fiscal Cliff in relation to income:
50,000 and below: 67% had little or no knowledge, while 9% were well acquainted
55,001 to 75,000: 69% had little or no knowledge, while 20% were well acquainted
75,001 to 125,000: 75% had little or no knowledge, while 18% were well acquainted
125,001 to 200,000: 61% had little or no knowledge, while 32% were well acquainted
200,001 to 500,000: 56% had little or no knowledge, while 35% were well acquainted
500,001 and above: 14% had little or no knowledge, while 53% were well acquainted
In an identical study with 10,000 American men, results showed that only 26% had little or no knowledge of the Fiscal Cliff and its consequences, while 67% were well acquainted.
“America has 24 days before the Fiscal Cliff,” says Wade. “Women need to be safe than sorry--this is especially true in the coming year. That is why until the Fiscal Cliff is avoided, SeekingArrangement.com is offering free premium memberships to women in the US who need benefactors or financial help.”
Women face a variety of financial hurdles due to inequality; lower wages, higher insurance rates, social services, and healthcare. In a study by the National Women’s Law Center, a research and advocacy group says that insurance companies charge women $1 billion more than men for the same coverage.
“In states that have not banned gender rating, more than 90 percent of the best-selling health plans charge women more than men. For a popular Blue Cross Blue Shield plan in Chicago, a 30-year-old woman pays $375 a month, which is 31 percent more than what a man of the same age, pays for the same coverage, according to eHealthInsurance.com, a leading online source of health insurance”. Possible budget cuts from the Fiscal Cliff if a budget is not negotiated:
$543 million: WIC budget
$4 million: Child nutrition programs
$24 million: Funding cuts to Planned Parenthood “1 in 10 US women access health care explicitly through Title X and Medicaid funded programs” (Planned Parenthood)
$11 billion: Medicare budget
“The fiscal cliff will hurt the rich less than the poor,” says Wade. “It will negatively impact women more than men because women make 24% less than men do."
Starting December 10th and until the Fiscal Cliff is avoided; SeekingArrangement.com will be offering free premium memberships to women, in order to help combat the financial effects. Even though men spend an average of $20 more on presents than women, women struggle to celebrate and survive the holidays with their loved ones because they have larger expenses and spend more on things, such as food during the holidays. “If you aren’t going to tax the rich, or make strides to close the wage gap,” says Wade “Then Americans can make an arrangement and be mutually beneficial. Call it the silver lining to a potential disaster."
