We’re thrilled to be partnering with Meals On Wheels, because it gives us the ability to do our part to eradicate senior hunger in the state of California.

Accent on Seniors, one of California’s leading and most established senior living referral services, announced today it is kicking off a virtual fundraiser on its website to support the Meals On Wheels Association of America®. The company hopes to shed light on the serious hunger crisis facing our nation’s seniors and is looking to provide California residents with a simple and effective means to help feed seniors in need of nutritional assistance.

Those who visit the Accent on Seniors website between December 19th and January 15th will have the opportunity to donate directly to one of five local Meals On Wheels Association of America® California member organizations in Santa Monica, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento or Orange County. Accent on Seniors will also contribute a one dollar donation to the charity for each visitor who “likes” their company’s Facebook page. The campaign is located at

“Every day we help seniors and their families to find a community where all of their needs can be fully met including providing care, socialization and nutrition,” says Djena Graves Lennix, President of Accent on Seniors. “Unfortunately, there are some seniors that we cannot help due to financial concerns, and those circumstances are particularly upsetting because in many cases the senior’s nutritional needs are not being met. That is why we’re thrilled to be partnering with Meals On Wheels, because it gives us the ability to do our part to eradicate senior hunger in the state of California.”

According to recent statistics from the Meals On Wheels Research Foundation, one in every seven seniors is threatened by hunger. Since 2009 the risk of hunger for the overall U.S. population has declined. However, during that same period food insecurity increased among those age 60 and older, primarily among the near-poor, with income one to two times the poverty level. The facts are clear: we are failing our nation’s seniors.

"We are so pleased to be working with Accent on Seniors to bring awareness and resources to combat senior hunger and nourish the lives of the homebound elderly,” said RoseMary Regalbuto, president and CEO of Meals On Wheels West. “Since 1974, Meals On Wheels West has delivered thousands of healthy meals to seniors with mobility or health issues that affect their ability to prepare meals for themselves. We hope that this partnership with Accent on Seniors will allow us to expand our reach into the community of seniors in need."

Accent on Seniors hopes that their virtual fundraiser will inspire California residents to donate to this incredibly worthy cause. Seniors are in critical need of nutritional assistance, and the more money raised, means the more seniors can be helped.
