It’s that time of the year again. Resolutions will be made -- and weeks later they will be broken. What if this year, you resolve to do things differently? As a health plan for life, CDPHP® is ready to be part of the resolution solution.
Here are some new twists on the old standbys designed to help you stick with it and make 2013 your happiest and healthiest year ever.
Old resolution: Save money.
New way: Get financially fit. A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) can help you pay for health care expenses using pre-tax dollars. Another way to learn how to save is to get advice from a professional. CDPHP members can take a free financial fitness class to learn how to balance their life and budget.
Old: Eat better.
New: Find creative ways to make dietary changes. Take a healthy cooking class or learn how to make wise choices in the supermarket. Get social with online tools and apps such as CaféWell for expert advice, lots of support and to make new friends.
Old: Give up certain foods.
New: Learn the health benefits of what you love. Avocados, dark chocolate, coffee, beef and eggs are packed with vitamins, minerals and other healthy essentials your body needs. Do a little research and learn to read nutrition labels. Moderation and education are key.
Old: Exercise more.
New: Get into the fitness spirit by trying something different. Zumba, barre, belly dancing and Balletone are fun ways to break out of an exercise rut. Some gyms, community centers and senior centers offer free or low-cost classes. CDPHP members can sample a variety of free classes. Keep track of your exercise goals with the CDPHP InMotion app.
Old: Quit smoking cold turkey.
New: Quit smoking with support. Quit lines and smoking cessation classes for adults and teens are widely available.
No matter what your goal, make it S.M.A.R.T. By setting Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound (S.M.A.R.T.) goals, you are more likely to stick with your plan and succeed.
