The Real Estate Marketing Insider named as its Mobile Marketing Story of the Week a report by Laura Monroe of Inman.com giving realtors and agents important new-year strategies to help them use mobile marketing for real estate. In her piece, Monroe makes the important point that as real estate - and real estate clients - become more mobile-proficient, basic social networking like Facebook and Twitter simply isn’t enough of an online or mobile presence for agents. Mobile use is up 128% in the last 18 months, reported Monroe; many websites and social networking profiles either aren’t optimized for mobiles or just don’t have enough content to make them worth exploring. Monroe said agents looking to improve their mobile presence in the new year need to optimize their websites for mobile; use a blog to tell stories and build content; optimize their email marketing for mobile devices; and use mobile technology to make the process of doing business easier.
The Real Estate Marketing Insider endorses all of Monroe’s ideas for marketing real estate. REMI has advocated heavily this year for agents to get online and go mobile; with the consumer base largely turning to their computers to do business, real estate will continue to shift to the online sector. The real estate community has clearly taken this advice to heart. More agents and firms are online than ever before, the online giants like Zillow and Trulia are growing, and innovations at startups like Redfin are changing the landscape every day.
Of course, this explosion in web- and online-based marketing means that a simple presence isn’t enough. Agents who truly want to be successful with their 2013 mobile marketing strategies should consider how the mobile experience differs from the online experience, and how an online presence might stand out in a crowd of new realtor pages. Monroe has put together a fantastic list of tips for agents to enter the new year with to help them optimize the presence that the web has in their business; REMI is proud to endorse her opinions and name the editorial its Mobile Marketing Story of the Week.
REMI only had one addition to Monroe’s list of tips for agents: the Insider also believes that every realtor should use the web to cultivate a personality; this is the one dimension of the realty experience that an online aggregator like Zillow has trouble cultivating. For individual agents, Monroe suggests starting a blog, updating it regularly with content and making it visible on social networking and agent websites. REMI would add that agents can still use social networking, especially things like Pinterest and other content-driven social sites, to give clients a sense of their personality, likes and passions. Agents should make sure that the content is centrally available, like on a main agent page. A personal element in a web-based experience can help a realtor stand out, even among extremely functional and efficient websites.
