Two Metairie Park Country Day School seniors have been nominated for United States Presidential scholarships by the US Department of Education. This is the highest national honor bestowed upon a graduating senior; only 141 are selected as Scholars annually.

Nina Haug and Lane Porter, both graduating seniors at Metairie Park Country Day School, have been nominated for the 2012 Presidential Scholars Program. 500 semifinalists will be selected from the more than 3,000 candidates on the basis of superior achievements, leadership qualities, personal character, and involvement in community and school activities.

The final selection of 141 Scholars will be announced by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars in May. Scholars receive the Presidential Scholars medallion at a recognition ceremony in June.
