Top industry experts gather to offer a unique opportunity for new fiction writers to learn from the best in the business.

Arc Manor is organizing a unique workshop for serious science fiction and fantasy writers. The workshop allows them to better their writing skills and teaches them how to navigate the publishing labyrinth. The workshop also allows writers a rare opportunity to network with top people in the industry, including the head of a major publishing house and a top-tier literary agent.

Getting published is an ongoing endeavor—from writing an exceptional story, to getting it noticed, to negotiating a contract and then publicizing the work to make it sell. Many new and potential authors get burned by not understanding the different skills needed to successfully work their way through the publishing maze.

What every successful author knows is that the ability to write well, though essential, is just the beginning of the process. To become a successful writer, one needs to learn how to write, and then, just as importantly, how to treat writing as a business.

Sail to Success is a workshop being organized by Arc Manor that gathers some of the top talent in science fiction and fantasy for an intensive round of classes to teach participants not only how to write like a pro, but also how to manage the writing business like a pro.

The faculty includes bestselling authors such as Kevin J. Anderson (48 bestsellers and 23 million copies of books in print) and major award winners including Mike Resnick (first on the Locus list of all-time short-fiction award winners and also the guest of honor at the 2012 Worldcon), as well as professionals from other areas of the publishing industry, including the head of a major science fiction publishing house and a top-tier New-York-based literary agent.

Participants will get invaluable writing tips from bestselling and award-winning authors. They will get parts of their manuscripts read and critiqued by the head of a major publishing firm, and they will learn how to negotiate contracts from the agent who negotiates contracts on behalf of Lois McMaster Bujold and the estate of Robert Heinlein.

And they will do all this while sailing on a cruise ship visiting the Bahamas.
