Digicon has been chosen as a supporter of The Children’s Inn at NIH WINNTER AFFAIR hosted by the Young Ambassadors Council scheduled for February 25th in Washington, DC. Digicon is a proud supporter of The Children’s Inn at NIH and the Young Ambassadors Council Gala. Digicon’s sponsorship helps make the event possible and enables The Inn to provide “a place like home” for seriously ill children and their families throughout the year.
The Young Ambassadors Council's first annual fundraiser, A WINNter Affair supports the Inn’s mission to provide young residents and their families with a homelike atmosphere while undergoing treatment at the NIH. Digicon joins the Young Ambassadors and friends of The Inn to celebrate the first year of the Young Ambassadors Council and to raise needed funds to support the Inn's mission and programs.
More than 10,000 children and families have stayed at The Inn since it opened in June 1990. Families come from around the world and more than 80 countries. They stay at The Inn free of charge no matter how long. The Inn’s doors are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Families have made 50,000 visits to The Inn over the last 21 years. Children and families participate in groundbreaking medical research at the NIH after conventional treatments have failed. Families come to the NIH, the world’s premier biomedical research facility, to participate in studies, such as heart, lung, blood, bone, and growth disorders, cancer, mental illnesses, and HIV infections.
The Inn is a nonprofit organization that relies on corporate and community support. The Inn’s mission is to offer children a place where they can play and be kids, away from the rigors of treatment. The Inn offers evening programs for parents and children, tutoring, sports activities and family dinners. The Children’s Inn operates on the philosophy that to effectively treat a patient, the healthcare team must care for a child and his or her family as one. Familial love and comfort make a real difference in the treatment of sick children, and the Inn helps to create invaluable support within and between families. The Inn fosters community and wellbeing among residents during difficult periods in children and families’ lives.
Polly Kiamos, VP, Digicon Health Sciences notes, “Digicon is a proud supporter of this worthwhile event and is honored to be included in the celebration. We look forward to working with the Young Ambassador’s Council in the future.” Digicon’s Health Sciences division has supported the NIH in making a difference in the health of the nation for more than twenty years in several Institutes.
