Levi Harrison, M.D. is America’s Fitness Doctor. He is a successful orthopedic surgeon with a thriving state-of-the-art practice, The Harrison Orthopedic Institute in the Los Angeles area which boasts athletes, celebrities and musicians, among others. Dr. Levi, as he is called, is also a sports and fitness enthusiast who excels in everything from basketball and football to mixed martial arts and bodybuilding. The Art of Fitness: A Journey to Self Enhancement is an exquisitely designed book which Dr. Levi authored because of his passion for fitness and health. The pictorial guide, which covers his core principals of commitment, consistency, diet, exercise, rest and recovery is designed as a safe, dynamic and effective cross-training program for everyone from the novice to the athlete.

“This book is a personal fitness journal and is designed to weave fitness and well being into the fabric of people’s lives,” says Dr Levi. “Through my practice, I have seen so many injuries and as a medical doctor, I know what people need to do to live long, healthy and fit lives. The book is about saving lives—how to incorporate a fitness routine into your life that is effective and easily maintained. The book demonstrates how to execute specific movements so that injuries such as tendonitis, muscle strains and others are prevented. I want people to exercise at all ages. This book is your personal trainer which demonstrates how to build an appropriate and safe core cross-training program.

The Art of Fitness is the first book in The Art of… series. Dr. Levi plans an aggressive national book signing tour in support of his first tome with a proactive platform to get people exercising to decrease obesity, diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. In addition, Dr. Levi is creating an accompanying DVD slated for release in 2012.

Dr. Levi received his medical degree from the University of California at Davis, completed his residency at King/Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles and did his fellowship training at the internationally renowned Indiana Hand Center in Indianapolis. He also holds BS and BA degrees from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters from Howard University. He is frequently called upon for his expert medical opinion by media outlets and travels extensively conducting lectures on Common Hand and Upper Extremity Injuries, the Impact of Diabetes on Orthopedic Injury, as well as Health and Fitness: The Basics. Prior to undertaking his medical degree, Dr. Levi was a celebrity fitness instructor.

Dr. Levi concludes, “My intention for this book is to increase awareness of health and fitness globally. It’s about commitment and consistent lifestyle changes. I teach people to take sustainable steps to make big changes in their lives. The book is not about body building, but rather building your body. Because of my medical training, I’ve outlined a methodical approach to strengthening the mind/body connection through exercise as America’s Fitness Doctor.”
