Tubac, Arizona (PRWEB) February 15, 2012
For over 50 years, the Tubac Festival of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona has been a magnet for art lovers from around the world and for good reason according to Steve Gold Productions, a NY based company that filmed the event. A mild February made this historic colonial village a delightful refuge from winter's chill and the art that was presented this year was particularly inspiring.
The 2012 Art Festival brought more than 10,000 visitors a day to the historic town to stroll the outdoor galleries and feast at local eateries. While the show is juried for quality, it is quite eclectic. Serious paintings share the street with whimsical sculptures and New Age music.
The Tubac Festival has the distinction of being the longest running event of its kind in the southwest.
Located just 30-minutes south from the Tucson airport, Tubac has been a day-trip destination for Arizonans at all times of year, ever since artists started their migration to live and work here in the 1950’s.
In fact, the favorable climate, clear air and beautiful vistas are also why more and more winter visitors are abandoning Scottsdale and Tucson for this idyllic high desert resort area.
Today there are more than 80 galleries and shops throughout the village that showcase fine paintings and sculpture, Native American imagery, cowboy art and exceptional local crafts.
According to Kim Roseman owner of the K. Newby Gallery which has just expanded this year to a 4,900 square foot building with sculpture garden: “Tubac is unique in Arizona. There’s no other town as beautifully situated where you can literally walk from one end to the other. We're so pleased that this year's festival brought so many new art lovers to our town”
Accomodations for visitors to the festival were varied. Although there are a few small guest houses in Tubac, the local golf club is the only resort hotel, so home owners have an incentive to rent their houses or condos. Embarcadero is a town home community that is particularly popular with art lovers. It has landscaped walkways, a beautiful pool with spa and fully equipped work-out room. It’s become the most popular vacation listing on VRBO, the premiere vacation rental site online. (http://www.vrbo.com/142455).
Aside from the great weather, Tubac is blessed with the majestic Santa Rita Mountains as a backdrop and as the region continues to attract winter visitors more services catering to discerning vacationers are appearing so undoubtedly the festival will keep growing. Today there are many fine restaurants, two world-class spas, a 27-hole golf course, tennis, horseback riding and undeniably the best hiking trails in the region.
