Live concert event producers meet to discuss staging safety and the recent tragic incidents in advance of a busy 2012 concert season.

Leaders from the live concert touring industry came together Saturday to meet at the annual Tour Link Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona to discuss a wide range of issues relating to live events, with a special focus on patron safety.

Safety discussion leader Jim Digby (Director of Touring and Production Manager for Linkin Park) read the names aloud of those who perished in 2011 and stated “this is our call to action, these things are happening on our watch and it is unacceptable. Over 11,000 shows were successfully produced without incident last summer; there were five catastrophic events around the world where fans were critically injured or perished; one incident of this nature is too many.”

The group then announced the creation of a new organization entitled the "Event Safety Alliance," whose stated mission is to unite the concert touring industry for the purpose of assembling key technical information which can be used to refine formal guidelines to improve safety at live events across the United States.

A special panel has been formed to present the results of this conference and engage in a discussion of these incidents at this week's Pollstar convention held in Los Angeles that is the annual gathering of agents, managers and promoters.
