ZAG’s success, which is the subject of a Cloud Innovators Case Study, comes in large part through enabling businesses to focus on their core competencies — their key strategic initiatives — rather than worry about their day-to-day information technology support. ZAG takes a very practical and methodical approach to providing solutions that deliver results for its customers.

“One thing we do that we pride ourselves on is we don’t just go in, work by ourselves, deliver a black box that you then inherit and don’t know anything about,” said Greg Gatzke, a ZAG Principal. “We involve the customer as much as possible — or as much as they want — so they have what they want at the end of the day and they understand it. They will know how we got there and they know how to manage it.”

ZAG’s business has grown as it has increasingly focused on delivering cloud-based solutions. By taking what were once on-premise systems and moving them to the cloud, ZAG has shown businesses the benefits in terms of productivity and direct cost savings. The major provider of the cloud services that ZAG deploys is Microsoft with its host of cloud products, most notably, Office 365.

“We entered the Microsoft online offering pretty much when it was born,” Gatzke said. “We just saw where Microsoft was going with this and thought it made a lot of sense for other companies. So, we were an early adopter and it’s paid off well for us.”

Gatzke attributes a good deal of their success with Microsoft Office 365 to how it aligns with ZAG’s approach to keeping focused on practical and proven solutions. Microsoft Office is a proven, reliable product and the cloud-based offering continues in that trusted role, and offers more flexibility than ever.

“They’ve got rules and best practices,” Gatzke said. “If you follow those, they are proven and scalable.”
