Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 04, 2012
The Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic weekend, hosted by actors Kyle Chandler and Brad Leland, is pleased to announce an exciting change to the events line-up. A new Disc Golf Company Challenge tournament will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa outside of Austin, TX. Chandler and Leland, both stars of the Emmy award winning DirecTV/NBC television series "Friday Night Lights", will once again co-host this star-studded weekend organized to benefit charities dedicated to supporting those with spinal cord injuries - The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis and Gridiron Heroes Spinal Cord Injury Foundation. The Disc Golf Company Challenge will replace the previous years’ Saturday Disc Golf Classic and the event will be organized in partnership with Austin-based Disc Nation, The Original Disc Golf Superstore.
The mid-afternoon Disc Golf Company Challenge will provide a fun and socially competitive way for local companies and their employees to be active in the community while their team competes for bragging rights, the BTL “Kings of the Office” traveling trophy and great prizes to take back to their company. Celebrity guests are also expected to participate on the course. Later that night, participants join the other Beyond the Lights guests, celebrities and golfers for the evening Gala.
As the focus is on having fun, teamwork and raising funds for a great cause, proficiency with disc golf is not required to play. Disc Nation experts will provide a short clinic prior to the event so even beginning disc golfers can quickly become familiar with the sport and tricks of the game.
The format change of the disc golf tournament to the new Disc Golf Company Challenge was created in response to strong demand for a non-golf outing in which local companies could participate that would also include the popular evening Gala that is part of the Celebrity Golf Classic schedule of events.
The Beyond the Light weekend was started when both co-hosts were inspired to help those with spinal cord injuries while shooting “Friday Night Lights”. “Since we started this a few years ago we’ve seen these charities do great things for those with spinal cord injuries”, said Kyle Chandler. Co-Host, Brad Leland added, “We named our event ‘Beyond the Lights’ because we wanted it to continue and have an impact after the TV show was over. Support from the community for our efforts has been so amazing that we’re psyched about reaching our 5th year and creating another memorable event for such a worthy cause.”
