Attendee’s came to collaborate on industry best practices, explore today’s market conditions and foster deal making in the middle market. The event featured two full days of education from industry experts on issues related to the current financial climate. The keynote speaker, Stephen M.R. Covey set the tone of the conference with his thought provoking speech: M & A at the Speed of Trust. In addition, the conference included a day-long Transaction Exchange in which deal makers and investors shared transaction opportunities from around the world.

Rob Slee and Dr. John Paglia were the winners of the Third Annual “Middle Market Thought Leader of the Year Award”. Winners were announced at the conference by Grant Thornton, partner for the 2011 Middle Market Thought Leader Award and a Premier Conference Sponsor.
Rob Slee was recognized for his seminal book Private Capital Markets: Valuation, Capitalization, and Transfer of Private Business Interests, 2nd Edition. Dr. John Paglia was honored for his groundbreaking research at Pepperdine University to better understand the true cost of private capital and the investment return expectations of business investors.
The new book, Middle Market M & A: Handbook for Investment Banking and Business Consulting just published by Wiley was introduced at the conference. The Handbook is a vital tool for all business professionals interested in understanding mergers, acquisitions, exits and strategic transactions for middle market companies. Authors Kenneth Marks, Robert Slee, Christian Blees and Michael Nall are lead lecturers of the CM&AA course. At the awards luncheon, four AM&AA members were recognized for outstanding contributions to the AM&AA and the Industry. The recipients were as follows:
Michael Ertel, CM&AA, Legacy M & A Advisors, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his tireless efforts in leading the Campaign for Clarity, finding a resolution to the “gray areas of “Licensure.”
Kenneth Marks, CM&AA, High Rock Partners, Inc, was named Member of the Year, for his leadership in bringing the Middle Market M & A Handbook to market.
Steven Silverman, CM&AA, TR Moore & Company, was named Committee Leader of the Year, for his outstanding performance as Conference Chair of the 2011 Summer and 2012 Winter events.
Graeme Frazier, Private Capital Resources LLC, was admitted to the Founder’s Circle for his extensive overall contribution throughout the years to the AM&AA and the Private Middle Market.
