For Charlie Dickens, it’s the best of times. About a year ago, Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing, LLC, (http://www.GulfCoastSupply.com) hired him to help plan and then manage one of the company’s newest locations. Now, with the facility up and running and his team in place, he starts the year with high hopes and big dreams.

In a way, Dickens has a best-of-both-worlds situation: He works for an established company with deep Florida roots and a solid reputation as a manufacturer and distributor of high-quality metal roofing – yet, at the same time, he enjoys the excitement of launching something new: Gulf Coast Supply, Alachua.

A life-long Floridian, Dickens was born in Fernandina Beach, just north of Jacksonville. He graduated from the University of Tampa in 1979 with a business degree. Prior to GCS, he had considerable experience in the home supply industry, including training managers and sales staff.

Now he’s managing his own location: The 7,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at 14480 NW US Highway 441, Alachua, FL, 32615, which is just off Interstate 75, less than 20 miles from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and is well-suited to expedite delivery and service to Central Florida, one of the state’s key population centers.

“My goal as a manger is to want the customer to walk through the facility and say: They know what they’re doing,” Dickens said. “You want people to see that the employees care, and we do.”

The expansion into Alachua is part of an overall goal for “GCS to be a powerful leader in the metal roofing industry,” says Jonathan Sherrill, the company’s vice president.

“For 16 years, customers across the Southeast have trusted Gulf Coast Supply in Horseshoe Beach as a manufacturer of premium quality metal roofing,” Sherrill said. “My dad and uncle built Gulf Coast Supply from scratch based on principles of honesty, customer appreciation, premium products and fair prices. These values are in full display in our new location in Alachua.”

According to Sherrill, Gulf Coast Supply has been the metal roofing manufacturer of choice for architects, contractors and homeowners throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and the Caribbean since 1996.

Last year, the company made a big splash at the annual FRSA Roofing and Sheet Metal Expo with a new company logo – one that Sherrill feels reinforces the company’s branding efforts.

In addition, Gulf Coast Supply also opened a new location at 8701 SW Old Kansas Ave., Stuart, FL, 34997, in Martin County, where the service area will extend out in a 75-mile radius around Stuart and include Vero Beach and the region around Indian River County.

As with staff members at its main headquarters at 4020 SW 449th Street, Horseshoe Beach, FL 32648, employees at the Alachua and Stuart locations are steeped in Gulf Coast Supply’s tradition of product knowledge and customer service.
